JCC Camps at Medford embraces children of differing abilities. For children with special needs, Camp created Open Hearts / Open Doors, a program in which children with special needs can be a participate in camp, side by side with their peers, by having additional support, such as an “advocate” counselor to help guide these campers through their camp day. Over 100 campers participate in the Open Hearts Open Doors program, most of whom would not have been able to attend without this program. Camp continues to reach out for financial support as campers who participate in the Open Hearts/Open Doors program do not pay additional fees for the support they receive.
